10 Questions Baby Boomers should ask their Financial Advisers

As a retiree a Baby Boomer should expect their financial planner to help them plan for their retirement and that includes advice on how to protect their nest egg.If you are a Baby Boomer AND in or near retirement your Financial Advisor should be advising you on how to protect your Nest Egg in Retirement. If they are not actively working with you to control your Nest Egg you could be in serious trouble. Did your financial planner:

Explain to you the differences between accumulation and distribution of your nest egg?

Help you set up a 5 year income ladder.

Tell you when to take profits to save to use as income when the market is down.

Show how with good planning your nest egg may last you 30 years or more.

Explain the effect of fees, inflation, taxes and pension withdrawal on your nest egg over time?

Help you implement a stop loss strategy to protect against large losses?

Put in plans to minimize fees and taxes?

Explain the difference between risk-based assets and non-risk-based assets and why you should not mix the two?

Call you late last year to discuss the Sub Prime Crisis and what you should do to protect your nest egg?

If none of this was done you have a problem and should definitely consider finding another financial adviser. Someone that will help you plan your retirement and assist you to manage your nest egg in retirement.

You should also ask your financial planner to tell you where they have their money invested and how well it is doing.

Financial planners have a big role to play in your retirement. Don't let them ignore their responsbilities of helping you manage your retirement nest egg properly.
