Key West Florida Lodging

By: Mikey West

Key West lodging has a few luxury resorts, a few relatively cheap places, and a lot of places priced between those. Since it is a very popular vacation city, you may find the room rates to be high compared to what you are used to paying. Rates are even higher in the winter.

You'll find a few Key West hotels and resorts with one hundred rooms or more. These large (by Key West standards) properties have beach front properties, fine swimming pools and spas, and restaurants onsite. The biggest is the Casa Marina Resort, with about 300 suites and rooms. National names such as Westin, Sheraton, Hyatt and Doubletree are available.

The next group of hotels have fewer than a hundred rooms but still offer you many amenities. The major brand in this size is Hyatt.

There are some wonderful Key West hotels with fewer than fifty guest rooms. These are such places as the Marquesa Hotel, the Gardens Hotel, the Sunset Key Guest Cottages and the Santa Maria Suites. You should find one worth a visit.

Key West has most national hotel brand names present and some of them are not as pricey as the luxury brands. You will find Courtyard, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Best Western, Days Inn, Travelodge and others.

Key West has a few small independent hotels and motels without a national brand affiliation. These places set and maintain their own standards, which may be below yours. They may be satisfactory. I've never been in one, so I can't recommend any. You may be able to find good value.

Bed and breakfast facilities are all over Key West. As the name says, your stay includes a daily breakfast, which usually is continental but could be a full one. The number of rooms is smaller than in the hotels and the rooms vary in styles. You might have to share a bathroom with others. An owner or manager will give you personal service.

Key West has but one youth hostel. Here you will find the town's lowest rates. You can share a common room and bathroom and have access to a kitchen. The owner does not permit alcoholic beverages on the property.
