Wedding toasts are public speeches' ugly cousin

Wedding toasts hold special significance to the person making the toast and to the newly-weds. While wedding toasts do make use of emotional words, one could also bring use the following quotes and add that much-needed dash of humor to a wedding toast.
Traditional Wedding Toasts "May there always be work for your hands to do."
Sister of the Bride Wedding Toasts "I've been so fortunate to spend my life with such a wonderful sister and I'm thrilled today to add a new brother to our family."
Brother of the Bride Wedding Toasts "I toast my sister to honor her wedding day, but more important in memory of the years we have spent together."
Again, you may not want to use these wedding toasts alone if you are on the spot for a longer speech, but you might weave them (or something like them) into your longer wedding toast.

Marriage

Likewise, if you’re toasting the bride, still make note of the groom. I have never ever heard a wedding toast that caused listeners to demand that the toaster keep on toasting for another 10 minutes. Words are not the only essentials in the art of toasting. Do not forget that parents of the young marrieds are also a subject for toasting and you may be asked to say a toast to her mother or his father. Using part of a song, poem, or even a bit of the history of toasting as your intro will get the marbles out of your mouth and loosen up your tongue while your guests are still quieting down. Five things to do when toasting: Choose a theme for your toast, Use point-form notes, Know when you're expected to make your toast, Familiarize
yourself with the location and other dynamics. Close with Five things NOT to do when toasting: Never use "canned toasts", Never assume you'll be able to speak without preparation, Never speak longer than 3 to 5 minutes, Never use humor that would offend your grandmother, Never have more than one drink before making your toast.

Any wedding guide for wedding toasts should remind the toaster to give a sincere toast that comes from the heart. Whether pronounced by your drunken uncle with his tie wrapped around his head or by your well-meaning, but stuttering best friend, wedding toasts bring out the worst in human suffering, both for speakers and listeners. The most redeeming feature of wedding toasts, and one to remember as you start to agonize days before the wedding because your best friend, the bride or groom, has asked you to give a toast, is that a toast is SUPPOSED to be short, as opposed to a wedding speech which has the frightening possibility of lurching forward like a slow motion train wreck for five or ten minutes.
